More Spec Debate

I recently posted asking for some advice on my spec and referencing a post I'd read on Resto4Life's blog about specing into brambles and insect swarm. I recently read a couple of posts on Gray Matter's blog about how useless brambles and insect swarm are in a raid setting. I tend to lean more towards Resto4Life's opinion - particularly as she's given the math to back up her position. What do y'all think?

Just to clarify, I tend to agree with the viewpoint that Insect Swarm and Brambles are of far less use in a raid setting. Where they really shine (in my opinion) is in 5-man instances where you're more likely to have one target — your main tank — being beat upon by 4-5 mobs. In a raid, that would squish even the heartiest of tanks! Insect Swarm itself is a great little DPS boost for any Druid doing any sort of soloing. Its 2% hit reduction is, in my mind, just icing on the cake! =)

I think you may have miss understood my posts. I so think that Brambles is a waste of points with a few exceptions. However, I am a big fan of Insect Swarm from a Balance perspective. From a resto perspective I don't know and will go along with Phaelia's judgement.

I like insect swarm because it provides a very mana efficent DPS boost. However, some tanks won't like it because it increases their avoidence thus decreasing their rage generation.

If you are going that far in the balance tree as a resto then it is a great spell to pick up. Brambles on the other had I still can't go along with. If your tank can't make up 9 tps, then you need a new tank.
